Happy with the new 10".
I had asked a bunch of pros and they all said Makita. I found the new one and ordered it. Out of the box it worked well. I still need to do some fine adjusting on it. I am in the middle of putting 2x8 blocking in my floors. The stand over height is great. Happy with the first few projects I have used it on. It is a bit on the large side butt it is a 10" saw that cuts in some of the specs a 12 does.

One Hot Ticket
I have had a Makita 1011 that I have used for years. I have used a half dozen other miter saws over time and always come back to my Makita machine. This new LS1016L is Hot. I have mounted it to my bench and have set up in&out feed support. The overall design is well suited for easy and quick adjustments. It only took a short time to familiarze myself with the various features and Bam, I was cranking out perfect cuts. The laser is dead on accurate and is easy to adjust if you change blades.(The adjsutment knob could be just a tad longer) The lock stop for the usual angles and bevels are also accurate. The best part is the deep reach of the slider allowing cuts that I would normally take a 12" machine. I appreciate the fact I do not have to buy 12" blades. The slide action is smooth and with 0 deflection. It does fling quite a bit of sawdust in the shop so using a vacuum would be suggested but not required. Enjoy this machine.

simple, easy, with lots of extras...
Well, to start, I have always used Dewalt saws. But, when I needed a new one I did some research via internet. But nothing compairs to a hands on checking out. Well, the power is great, the noise is quieter than average. The slides, yeah, some folks complain about them, apparently the problem was rectified prior to my purchase. Flawless!! Sometimes, you may need to adjust the saw "dead on" after purchase, which is one of the more than easiest saws I have had to zero in. The soft start feature, If you saw window stoop notches with a miter saw, then you know how important soft start is. Fairly light weight for how much saw you get. The bevel system is good, like the positive stops. The handle, which has has positive stops, also quickly converts to an auto lock when not on preset degrees. This is a great feature worth half the price of the saw alone. The only complaint I may have is I would like to see if they would put the laser on a timer that turned on with the depressing of the safety, which by the way is conveintly located.

All I can saw, Dewalt makes some good stuff, but at this price for quality, Makita made a believer out of me.

So, since the purchase of this saw, I bought their circular saw, the 5740 i believe, and very impressed, light weight for all day use. I also upgraded my hammer drill "which made my Bosch look like junk ". And purchased a cordless set. Which was also a great investment for the professional. In all, Makita has stepped up their A-game.

be weary of factory recons
I've been a professional remodeler for about 28 years, bought the Hitachi 8.5" slider about 19 years ago. It's paid for itself a few times over, replaced bearings etc.. It's been a good saw but time for a new one. Not too keen on the alian look of the new Hitachi and don't care to carry around a bulky 12" saw. After shopping around in big box stores and on line, it seemed that the Makita LS1016L was the right choice for me. I ordered a factory reco to save a hundred bucks and in my mind, I'm thinking the factory would take care of all the boo boos, but it turned out to be not the case. After reading reviews I new that I might have an issue or two such as the upper rails being too rough and stiff which was the case in my saw as well but was a quick fix by loosening the allen set screws sliding it back and forth a couple of times and tightening them back down while in the foward position. But there was a couple of issues that others did not list that I had with mine. One thing was the sliding lever on the right of the handle that supposed to lock the lower rails, didn't hold as tight as they should and I didn't see an adjustment. The other issue was when sliding from miter to miter, the miter lock plate would scrape on the miter scale plate in a couple spots, very annoying. I checked out the ones in three different Home Desperate stores([@]), none had these issues. I called Makita, they sent me a new lock plate and miter scale plate (free of charge). I swapped the parts out and unfotunatly the problem was not resolved. I contacted Tyler Tools, they e-mailed me a free return slip (outstanding behavior). For me it was't worth the hundred bucks I saved for the amount of time I had to F with it, but with that being said, otherwise the saw was everyhing I could hope for. I only had to tweek the fence ever so slightly. I would expect that with any saw and there were no issues on getting it where it needed to be. The upper rails I leave locked unless I'm cutting something over 10" wide (nice). It has a slower RPM than other saws in it's class but that doesn't seem to effect the quality of cuts and might even assist in it's super smooth starts and stops. The laser was spot on. Even though it is adjustable I didn't have to mess with it. It did come with a real nice 60 tooth blade. Over all, issues aside I'm very pleased with dealing with Makita and Tyler Tools (all pro and on the case) and guess what, I'm going to order a new version of the same saw with a stand. Seems like a good deal. If it comes without issues, I'll give it 5 stars. Crossing my fingers.

Great saw
After a few months of reading reviews, I decided to pull the trigger on the LS1016. I was aware of a few potential issues with this particular saw - sticky upper rails, excessive runout, a fence that won't easily square up to the blade. Still, it seemed that people who got a saw without one of these issues loved the machine.

I'd had good luck with reconditioned tools in the past, and this was no exception. Upon unboxing, the saw appeared to be in new condition - no scuffs, scratches, etc.
One note: this saw comes with the A-93675 60t blade. For some reason, this isn't listed as one of the "includes" on the reconditioned saw, but it was in the box, packaged snugly under the saw.

Out of the box, my fence needed an adjustment to bring it to a 90 degree angle with the blade. This was easy to do, although as others have stated, the fence seems to be pretty much at its adjustment limits when properly squared.

The upper rails on my saw were quite sticky. Even after reading numerous accounts of this on forums and reviews, I was unprepared for the jarring sensation of transitioning from the lower rails to the upper when sliding the saw through its full range of horizontal movement. HOWEVER, this problem seems to be quickly remedying itself. Even after just a few dozen cuts, the action of the upper rails is vastly improved, almost to the degree where I no longer notice it while moving the blade through a cut. I'm confident that it will soon be a non-issue altogether.

My saw has no, or at least very little, runout. I brought the blade about 3/4s of the way down through a 3" thick slab of oak, lifted it out, stopped the motor, and slipped the blade back down into the cut. The blade fit snugly with no noticeable gap at either side. I haven't checked the side to side with a dial indicator, but for my needs, it's plenty precise.

Also, my laser is dead on, which I wasn't really anticipating. I've read reviews that stated that the laser will get you close, but you need to bring the blade to your pencil mark for a final adjustment. I don't find that to be the case with my saw. My blade cuts just to the right of the laser line. And I mean JUST. Even on angled cuts, it's amazingly accurate.

My one gripe with this saw is the vertical vise. I find that when I need it, mostly on small pieces, it doesn't reach. There are only 4 placement holes cast into the base of the saw, and they're out toward the edges. I've read that the 1013 had more, but I dunno. Anyway, it's not a deal breaker.

So yeah, great saw. I think you should probably buy it.

Hard to square up
I use this in the woodshop. The two problems that I had were in squaring the back fence and the blade gaurd. The hex bolts on the back fence have little to do with squareing them up since there is little to no movement. The part that allows movement is a turning screw on the back of the fence and that has to be in the fully tight posision or the fence will wabble. I was finally to get it square by sticking some playing cards behind it. Also the blade gaurd seems very loose andcontacted the blade on one cut and cracked off. A new one was only $2.31. Finally it says that you can cut dados with this saw but if you set that screw for the blade to be up high enough you cannot get a through cut (the blade will not go far enough back). This can be fixed with a piece of scrap in the back.
All in all I like this saw. The blade is good out of the box and smooth even cuts. And after some time for set up I was able to make great miters. I cut through 6/4 cherry and a 4x4 fence post with no problem. I had to give it 4 stars because of the great price I got from CPO.

Last saw I'll buy
I couldn't be happier with this saw. The base is wide enough so it doesn't threaten to tip over. So you can use it on a bench or table... no real need to get an expensive chop saw stand. I use a piece of 3/4 inch plywood on two sawhorses. Other nice touches... You can get a straight view of the bevel angle indicator. The extra slide mechanism makes the whole thing fold up really compact for a "real" chop saw. The laser is accurate, but I never use it. It's not loud and it sounds smooth, unlike some yellow saws. It's light enough that I carried it right onto a roof to do some clapboards today. The table whips back and forth with no resistance, but the detents lock it up with no slop at all. The lock is pretty unique, but I love it now that I'm used to it.

Great Saw, Great price
I did a lot of research prior to buying my Makita saw and I haven't been at all disappointed. So far I have zero complaints and having used saws for the past 30 years I have to say for the price this one is the best I've had. Ordering was easy, shipping was cheap and arrived in 3 days. All & all I'm happy with the saw I have zero complaints with CPO. I will do business with them again.

Do I need the laser model for making simple cuts?
Mostly 90 and 45 degree.

BEST ANSWER: Having the laser system would make the bevel cuts easier to see before making the cut, but the laser is not required to make them.

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 60 days.
