You just need to know how to use this tool! Then it works as it should
I agree makita does not provide proper instruction! However after 10+ years of owning a few of these I have found them very useful and rarely problematic! You do need to secure the bit with impact hammers with pressure towards you and loosen in revers with impact hammers with pressure away from you for best results if you do this every time you use it you will very much appreciate owning it!!!
This thing is fantastic! But because Makita provides NO instructions we all use it like we use a regular chuck. That is why there are all the negative reviews! All you do is put it into the 1/4" piece into the impact driver. To secure the drill bit or whatever simply hold the chuck and press the trigger. The impacts tighten the chuck. To loosen put the impact driver in reverse, grab the chuck and the impacts loosen it. If you do not use the impact to tighten or loosen it is going to make you nuts.
BUT, if you do use the impacts to tighten it it works like a charm. Great addition to your collection. (I almost left a VERY negative comment but found this solution.) I guess Makita felt it was a no brainer. And it should be. But it ain't. Ignore the negative reviews. This thing makes your impact driver much more versatile.
Makes hex head drill/driver more versatile but prone to break where shaft meets chuck due to impact forces. Better design would use rounded corners and less mass. Will serve a purpose for routine work but cannot take regular use with impact tools.
I have struggled with this chuck since I bought it. Bits fall out, or at times they get stuck and I can't get them out. Right now, I have an expensive wood boring bit that cannot be removed. ? This is my first experience with a hex drive drill and impact driver (Makita) I got tired of buying hex equipped drills and accessories so I bought this keyless chuck, it's a really bad design.
Difficult to tighten or loosen chuck even by experienced users. Bought it to add occasional versatility to compact cordless driver, attaching this to the nose of the driver ruins the weight and balance of the tool. If you can avoid buying this do. And avoid a the compact driver too, buy a cordless drill with enough of a handle so your wrist is not taking all of the torque.
"I have ordered from CPO several times and have been very happy with each purchase. It just makes sense to buy factory reconditioned for the better price and knowing that the makers are the ones checking out their own tools makes me feel better about buying reconditioned."
