great saw
I would definately recommend this saw. Its important to read the setup directions, to ensure the fence and miter angle are correct/accurate to the gauge. One thing that isn't listed is the mounting hole distances. They are approx 16 1/2 (front to back) inches between the mounting holes. This was too great a distance for my particular stand brackets, and I had to get some mounting plates. easy enough, but if mounting to a saw stand that is non Makita, you might need some brackets/ plates as well. Laser turns on/off on its own switch and doesnt need the blade spinning.

Best in class, hands down!
I'm giving 5 stars not because the tool is perfect but, it is the best over all performance in a 12" slide compound miter saw! There is some give and take that I can certainly live with. I'm getting more cutting capacity than ANY other 12" slide saw!! It is deadly accurate if you allow it. It is possible to lean to one side during a cut and lose a very slight bit of accuracy... this is true with all brands. I have no use for a laser, but the laser is movable to either side of the blade and accurate. After 37 years of doing trim carpentry I think my opinion can be trusted and if I buy another 12" right now, it will be thus saw!!

I would buy this product again.
The instruction manual needs a lot of work. I also have a Bosch miter saw and the instruction is much
better than the Makita.
I purchase the saw because of it's widespread capabilities of larger materials (crown molding etc)

I use this as my second saw now, after two years as numero uno the miter adjustment system has become almost inoperable. Makita says it's because I don't clean it often enough...which was never an issue with my Bosch...which has been restored to primary position.

Good...but just good
I am a professional remodeler. My employees and I use this saw for anything from framing to trim carpentry.

The LS1216L is a strong saw with good features. I can cut any board as big as you will ever need.

I sometimes find it difficult to reach the bevel adjustments.

Makita advertises "dead on out of the box." That wasn't my experience!

The bevel doesn't "click" into zero. The Zero spot is squishy leaving it up to the user to put it at exact zero, then lock it down. It's annoying and it takes time.

I have not been able to dial it in. It always seems off a little bit.

I have owned this saw for 6 months and am considering something else.

*also, I had to exchange the saw. The first one I received would not slide correctly.

Looking for a really nice saw?
Worked great out of the box, the blade and stops were
dead on.

The work table could be a bit more supportive.

When this one dies, years from now, it'll get replaced with another Makita.

Accurate right out of the box, planer sm
I find the painted surfaces stay smooth longer than the aluminum bodies ,and the blade speeds could use the extra 200rpms that the older models have, but in all a great new model, comparatively light weight very smooth cuts.dont need a joiner to make glue ups with factory blade.just can not be beat even by dewalt 918!

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 120 days.
