Portable with Stationary Output
I have been doing cabin/millwork for 30+ years on and off the jobsite; and rough carpentry/you name it periodically over that same time. In that time I have used and abused an uncountable variety of tools by any number of past and present makes and models. I bought this "little" unit to have around the shop I have at home with screw guns and sanders in mind; more than a pancake unit will keep up with by any reasonable notion. I also have an impending shingle re-roof for the house that I have no intention of doing without a few helpers.

Not wanting a stationary compressor and need for a portable unit, not just a tall off balance tank with wheels; I did A LOT of research prior to making this purchase. In my opinion this is without question the best of both worlds; outperforming many stationary units at twice the price. When dollar value is a primary concern, for a "little" portable unit this is a beast. Running a sander and drill/driver at the same time I am certain it would handily keep up with three or four roofing guns as well.

Bear in mind that little is a relative term and compared to a pancake or a small horizontal tanked, top mounted motor configuration, this is not. On and off the tailgate is not out of the question for someone in reasonable shape, nor is pulling it up a ladder to the roof. The use of plastic is very minimal; the small storage compartment is metal where plastic would have been used by some manufacturers. With two handle choices it navigates tight spaces well with the front handle; the fold-down rear handle makes for a well balanced trip across a large jobsite. Both handles are sturdy well sized tubular steel, the positive locking mechanism for the fold-down handle is ~3/8" welded solid steel; the locking levers are just as solid.

Portability, flexibility, low center of gravity combined with a surprisingly quiet production of outstanding CFM at a mandatory pressure, built like a tank construction, house current rated with an overall professional quality at a low price point; this is an incredible value. IF I were in a COLD environment and had a startup struggle somewhat inherent to oil filled compressors I would just open the drain valve for a minute or two for a quick warm up. In my neck of the woods it can definitely get cold in the shop, especially a jobsite or outdoors; but it doesn't really get COLD.

I am extremely happy with my purchase; it has definitely exceeded my expectations, my current and any future needs. As a customer my experience with CPO has lived up to what I have come to expect from them; excellence time and again.

The best compressor ive had !!!!!!!
I have been a remodeling contractor for 32 years and have had my fair share of compressors. The Makita MAC5200 is by far the best one i have owned. Not only is it quiet and powerful but it has the quickest recovery time of any portable compressor.I run 2 air nailers simutaneously without a hitch, I have also used a paint sprayer to paint furniture with and it has worked perfectly.

Outperforms bigger compressors
I bought this because it has the ability to run higher CFM tools briefly. I would have bought a big 60 gallon if I were running an impact all day long, but this is perfect for me because it is portable yet powerful and gives me versatility. The only thing I don't like is the on/off switch is a little lever that is down low above the wheel. Everything else seems very well built. The tank builds to 150 psi in well under 1 minute.

High CFM, Prompt delivery,Poor Packaging
Makita tools are top notch and the build quality of this compressor is old school impressive... mostly metal. I've been looking for a high CFM compressor that could perform a variety of DIY projects around the house yet still be portable: automotive projects(air tools & tire fills), cerakoting(bead blasting and spray painting), and framing nail guns. Most of the high CFM compressors I've found were large, expensive, and expensive to ship. This rebuilt MAC 5200 fit the bill, includes a 1 yrs warranty, and free shipping from CPO. The only knock would be the packaging. The unit was shipped in a large cardboard box with limited packaging/protective material(see photo and packing paper on top). But the MAC 5200 is so well built that it survived shipping w/o even a scratch. Note to CPO: although the MAC 5200 is built like a tank and weighs like one... you may want to consider bubble wrapping the outside metal frame/tubes to ensure that it survives shipment to other potential buyers.

Satisfies the requirements of a HVLP
Use for spraying furniture through an HVLP system that uses between 4-8 CFM depending on the gun and project I am doing. All in all it stands up quite well to the test of continuous spraying and with an automotive air dryer and regulator by DeVilBliss it give clean constant pressure to my gun. It's loudness is do-able and it's power is significant. I'd buy it again if this one died.

Excellent Machine
This unit is HEAVY, but it does have wheels and handles are placed well so you can lift it for loading and unloading.

I use this compressor to run pneumatic air guns. It will will multiple guns simultaneous without any problems.

This unit is loud, but definitely not as loud as other popular compressors (such as the pancake ones.)

The Makita MAC5200 is top notch! It is the best for those that need portability and high performance!

Great product... Well built... I have several smaller compressors that this is replacing. Fast recovery when using multiple guns or high consumpsion tools... It is heavy if u have to lift but it's nice to move with the wheels... Would buy again

would I be able to air up tires to 110 pounds without much problem?
A shopper on Jun 24, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I have not done that but see no reason it could not be done, the unit has plenty of power with the 3 HP Moyer. I normally run mine at 120 PSI running 2 nail guns etc. Hoped that will be helpful. Make sure you have the unit on its own 20 Amp circuit with Avery large extension cord or with just the cord that comes with the air compressor.
How many CFM?
Al K on Feb 2, 2018
BEST ANSWER: It has 6.5 cfm’s at 90 psi. It has a very quick recovery.

New Vs. Reconditioned

What's the difference between New and Factory-Reconditioned?

Factory-Reconditioned products have been returned to the manufacturer and are restored to like-new operating condition; they go through a rigorous testing and inspection process. Plus, they offer a significant savings vs. new.
  • Reconditioned products may have minor cosmetic blemishes or scratches that do not affect item performance.
  • Reconditioned products may not come with all of the consumables the new version comes with (bits, sanding pads/papers, cases, etc.).
  • Both come with a manufacturer warranty and are covered by our Money Back Guarantee; New is 30 days, Reconditioned is 120 days.
