Good saw but not great.
I have been using the Festool track saw for about 12 or 13 years. Unfortunately, the motor finally gave out. Since I am semi-retired now, buying the new Festool was cost prohibitive. Plus, I am assuming that I will not put as many hours on the new tool as I have in the past. After researching the newer alternatives such as the Dewalt and Makita, I chose to go with the Makita for two reasons. One, the Makita has gotten better reviews than the Dewalt. Two, the Makita fits my existing Festool tracks which saves on having to buy new ones. In short, I like the Makita saw, with a couple of minor misgivings. The Makita is well designed, provides a clean/sharp edge and actually has a little more power than my old Festool. It fits my old Festool guides perfectly and adjust to height very smoothly. The one weakness is stamina. I tend to rip a clean edge on a lot of 8 foot hardwood boards that I get from the sawmill. If I try to cut too many boards in a short period of time, the saw cuts off, which is a built in protection of the saw to keep the motor from being overworked. While this feature is a good idea, it is forcing me to change my work patterns a bit. After I rip a few edges, I work on something else for a while to give the saw a chance to cool down and then I go back and rip a few more edges after the saw has had a chance to rest. Other than forcing me to learn new work habits, I think the saw is great and in a number of ways is superior to my old Festool.

Very Impressed
My Festool track saw was recently stolen along with many other tools from my trailer, so when my insurance check came through it was time to replace that very handy but expensive tool. I labored over other reviews and finally decided on this Makita. Luckily the thieves were too dumb to take the track so finding out the track is interchangeable saved me time and money. My first experience so far was using it to cut 1.5" solid oak butcher block counter tops, it blazed through it with no issue. I then used it to clean up the edges on a 150 year old wood door, once again no issues, I even accidentally cut through part of a metal latch I forgot to remove and even that didn't stop it or even mess the stock blade up too bad. All in all I think I like it better than the festool. The tracks are identical, the case is identical but the price is nearly half for what seems to be at least the same performance if not better. Highly recommend.

Works as advertise
Building a Murphy bed for our guest bedroom. Requires multiple dead on straight cuts on 3/4" cabinet grade plywood, which is expensive wood. The rail system makes the cuts dead on strait with no chipping. The blade that comes with the saw makes every bit furniture grade cuts. Saw NEVER bogs down

Great saw
Just received the SP600J saw, so this is not a long term anything. A few test cuts went well, mirror smooth. The grippy strips on the track work surprisingly well, just align with your marks and cut.

Really nice track saw, make ultra clean cuts. Use it for breaking down sheets for cabinets. Can handle by myself and don't have to fight with table saw.

One really well made and thought out saw.
I did a lot or research before purchasing a track saw and found the Makita to be the best value for price out there. There were some ridiculously priced and some lower but I have other Makita tools and have always been satisfied. This saw does not disappoint. It makes a very clean cut and have no complaints about it yet.
